Save Your Breath
Growing up in Newport, Wales, the young members of Save Your Breath needed a way to distract themselves from the feeling of boredom that seems to suffocate small towns. Focusing on their love of music, they escaped into the basements of the local underground scene, going to shows and eventually starting bands of their own. “We all grew up going to the same places and hanging out at the same shows,” recalls bassist Ben Griffiths. “Then we got to know each other better from the different bands we played in.” After Griffiths’ first band split up, he started jamming with another Newport native and friend, guitarist Tom Owen. Shortly after, Owen’s childhood friend Bobby Sondergaard joined on drums, with second guitarist Adam Parslow and singer Webbo filling out the lineup.

With hardcore, punk and pop punk groups such as Green Day, Bad Brains, Saves The Day and The Ataris as their primary influences, Save Your Breath started writing upbeat songs with positive, inspirational lyrics that set them apart from a pop-punk scene dominated by the over-worn theme of teenage heartache. “We like to play songs that mean something to us personally, and hopefully to the people we play them for,” explains Griffiths. These songs quickly earned Save Your Breath a solid fan-base and caught the ears of Newport’s Stagedive Music, who released their debut EP, Nothing Worth Having Comes Easy, in the UK in 2009. An irresistibly catchy record, Nothing Worth Having… puts a new spin on the classic pop-punk sounds of Blink-182, New Found Glory, MxPx and Midtown.

It wasn’t long before this tight-knit group of friends broke out of Newport’s underground hardcore scene. Save Your Breath were eager to get on the road and make their way into the national spotlight. During a year of touring throughout Europe that included opening for Funeral For A Friend, Set Your Goals, Polar Bear Club and The Wonder Years, Adeline Records approached Save Your Breath about releasing their EP across the pond. Nothing Worth Having Comes Easy is set to hit the digital marketplace in North America on April 13, 2010 with two previously unreleased bonus tracks.

With a year of incredible tours, a strong debut EP, and two record deals under their belt, Save Your Breath are ready have another successful year in 2010. The band plans to spend most of their time on tour, taking time out in the fall to record their first full-length record. But don’t expect them to be off the road for too long; their small-town upbringing has filled the men of Save Your Breath with wanderlust. “One of the best things about being in a band is being able to get away from everything in your hometown and travel with your best friends and play shows,” explains Griffiths. “You get to meet so many new people and see different sights and places that most people don’t get the opportunity to see.” Armed with a new vocalist – longtime friend Kristian Richards – their catchy brand of pop-punk, and the passion and ambition that brought them together, Save Your Breath will continue their journey towards a bigger life than ever seemed possible, leaving a trail of catchy melodies and new fans in their wake.
